Chucks. Ya gotta love them. Having spanned generations, they are the ultimate go-to footwear. So comfortable and forever in fashion. I've been wearing my hi-tops quite a bit lately and have come to fully appreciate their brilliance. My pair are just plain navy blue, but I'm keen to get some patterned ones coz I've always been envious of my friends in Dunedin who have the coolest designs. Some meaaaaaan designs that I've been getting shoe-lust over lately:
Super Mario! So mint
Stars n Stripes (love the vintage sorta look of these ones)
Christmas sorta print
Aztec - probs my fav!
I salute you, Chuck Taylor, for your marvellous creation.
I admit it. I like One Direction.
They have the most catchy songs and are the cutest group of boys out.
After a bit of 'research' on the band, I've come to the conclusion that Louis Tomlinson is my fave. He's 20 (the oldest in the band) and a total babe. Not only that, but he has a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l voice and mean fashion sense.
So last night was pretty cool. Had about 60 people over for the flat warming, and it was mean. So. Much. Fun. Some highlights were: dancing the macarena with new friends, catching up with old hostel buddies, the strobe light, painting the nails of two new friends (both male, I must add), Cotton-Eye Joe, jelly babies with a twist && Jelly Shots. The night was not without its hiccups though, one guy ended up fracturing his ankle after attempting some wrestling moves, and the flat took a while to clean today! But overall, it was great. Before we got ready, Jac and I were trying to re-create this one epic photo we took back in first year. I think we've got one that's pretty much as good....
The original - taken mid 2010 on thaaaaat night (eh Jac hehe) during re-o week
The replica - taken last night. Of course there are some inconsistencies but overall pretty close!
So I turned 20 yesterday. Sheeeeesh that's old! And I got totally, unnecessarily, but awesomely spoilt. Received mail/packages from the bestie, a cousin, the twinnies, the grands && something everyday for 6 days (!!) from the mothership. Also got an amazing, super-customized-just-for-me present from the other bestie. Unfortunatly I had a 9-5 day of uni and work but when I got home, the flatties had a beautiful cake and candles waiting, and there was another package in the cupboard.
This is what I discovered upon opening the package....
12 beautiful cupcakes of various flavours.
And they taste amazing.
Mum, you really outdid yourself, I can't wait for my 21st!!
Do you remember Jonathan Taylor Thomas? Played the middle son Randy in Home Improvement, pretty much my favourite show back in the day, and the first TV crush I can remember having. He was such a promising star too, especially as he voiced the young Simba in The Lion King, one of the greatest movies of all time. So what happened?
Since then, he's appeared in Smallville, Veronica Mars and 8 Simple Rules but hasn't done any acting since 2006.
I hope you are alg JTT, and we wouldn't mind if you showed your face again :)
Then Now (ish)
p.s. the flatties took me out to dinner tonight as an early birthday thing. how kind.
hope you've had a fab Monday :)
Increased exercise, and more variety! Jac and I have been doing pump classes which are great! We also trialled a bodystep and bodyjam class which were mega fun too, so we'll be going to them in the future too!
Beginning everyday with a healthy breakfast :)
Pita Pit!! If you haven't tried it, make sure you do. ah.mayyyy.zing.
Zooey Deschanel's show New Girl. Its so cute.
Mum. Got a package in the mail yesterday. On the outside it said 'on the first day of birthday my mummy gave to me....' and contained the coolest aztec jandals. Havaianas, to be exact. My mother is so quirky :)
That I have my St Pats outfit organised!! Woop!
That St Pats is only a week away! Woop!
Cranking up the music and havin lil rages in the car. tehehe
The beautiful sunny day we had here today
My new satchel. Love.
Text messages from friends for no particular reason, just to say Hey :)
And lastly, the fact that one flatmate is a chef! And that he makes us meals like this:
Fresh fish on potato/red onion/courgette cake with french beans, salad greens, aioli and apple glaze.
Had a pretty sweet day today, class involved watching the original Stepford Wives from 1975 which is a very good movie, though undeniably creepy. We were viewing it as a feminist text, which it definitely is. It was funny though because if any of the characters walked down the street today in the attire they're wearing in the film, they would totally fit in. They were wearing things like frayed denim short shorts and crop tops (pretty much what all the girls who think they're cool wear these days).
On another note...a while ago my friends and I went out for cocktails and ever since then I've really wanted to experiment with making them for myself. I've got this mean retro cocktail recipe book which has recipes that sound SO delish. I want to make drinks like this:
Mojito Long Island Iced Tea
Sidecar Tom Collins
The All Nelson Frozen Melon Margharita
YUM sooooo keen to create some of these bright, colourful, nommy drinks! They be lookin so fly yo!
I think that one day I would like to have a collection like the one they have at work:
With a collection like this, the options would be endless.
Btw, I am not an alchy haha. I don't even drink much at all.
I think I may possibly have found the most soothing song ever. After hearing it in a friend's car and immediately loving it, I bought it and have been playing it pretty much every night before I go to sleep ever since. It's so lovely and relaxing.
It makes me think of Asia, as the music is sorta like the music in Memoirs of a Geisha and Mulan.
This song just makes me drift and dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeam...
Saw this post on honey and fizz today and thought it was pretty cool, so decided to do eeeeeet. As most of you who read this blog know me quite well, I'll try to share things that you may not know where I can. So even you, my lovely friends, may learn something about me today ;)
