Wedding Song

I've found my wedding song. I may not even get married but if I do one day, this is the song we'll do our first dance to. It's SO BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT. The groom doesn't get a say, this is it.

Also, I want to date Ed Sheeran.

Yo!

Okay okay sorry for not blogging in quite some time. I definitely want to keep the habit up, and will endeavour to do so, but I have just been lacking in motivation a bit. So I shall make this post a round-up of what’s been going on in my life since the last post!
Work – Post-trip depression has died down somewhat and work has been going fairly well. However, we had a meeting with the editor of our sister newspaper a couple of weeks back in which I felt extremely targeted and got quite upset (fighting back the tears). Since then, I’ve tried to make more effort, and haven’t had any complaints so hopefully things are going better. However, when talking with one of the other girls in the office about my issues, she said she also notices the mean way the editor talks to me and constantly criticizes me. So it’s not just in my head. Unfortunately, the editor is the managers’ darling so I don’t feel as though I can talk to her about it.
Gym – I have been really good since I’ve been back, going 5-6 times a week. It’s such a great release for me (especially when issues like the aforementioned are occurring).
Friends –Haven’t seen my Hastings besties for ageeeeeees which has been lame. Spending time with my friends here is always great. It’s good for the soul.
Music – For some reason lately I can’t get enough of Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa. It’s not a new tune but it’s just so good and it makes me dance. I also love everything by Miguel at the moment.
Movies – Recently I’ve watched Don Jon, The Wolf of Wall Street, and V for Vendetta. Would recommend the latter two. The first one is, well, interesting. I’ll leave it at that.
TV shows – Almost up to date with White Collar and have one more episode of Sherlock to go. Both are just so great. Suits and Game of Thrones are starting up again in not too long – YUSS. Also, I watched an episode of KUWTK a couple of days ago and was LOLing so much that I’ve now completed series one and two. Guilty pleasure.
Books – Finished Catch 22 finally! It only took me about 2 months haha. Actually thought it was a pretty good read once I was done with it. For the latter half of the book I was appreciating how funny and well written it was. Then read Animal Farm – so fantastic! Am now reading The Book Thief which is Ah-mazing so far. In the interim, I also spent the paperplus voucher I was given at Christmas and bought Gone Girl (soon to be a movie and I’d heard the book is great) and I Quit Sugar by Sarah Wilson which I finished the day I got it. Cutting out sugar is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and having now read two books about sugar, it’s a main goal of mine.
Car – Argh. Discovered my car had a big oil leak which is going to cost far too much to get fixed. Going to take it for a second quote to see if it’s worth fixing. If not, new car time! Sad though, I liked this one L
Family – Haven’t seen them in quite some time and miss them all the time. Seeing my Dad and sister soon though as sister is moving to Palmy in two weekends! That will be cool. I was tasked with finding her a flat, which I did. I hope she likes it! (though I’m sure she will – it’s awesome). Can’t wait to see Dad as well. I’m taking the two of them out to my favourite Japanese restaurant when they’re down. Eeeeep!!
Garcon – Has been far too long since I’ve seen him. Texting has been good though, for the most part. Can’t wait to see him next. We have some stuff to figure out.
Time for a selfie? I think so...
Heh so attractive.

That song

Do you have one of 'those' songs? A song you can't listen to without getting tears in your eyes? While I have never cried in a movie or book (I know...odd...), there is one song on my ipod that never fails to bring tears to my eyes. It just moves me every single time. It is called Pieces and it is by a band called Red.

*sniffle*

Employment has arrived, finally :)

I have a job. A proper job. Finally! It's been a long time coming but it's so exciting! I have scored a 9am-4pm job at the paper I've been writing stories for. I'll be doing half reception work and half writing editorial, plus I'm to be in charge of the classified pages (which is actually waaaay harder to put together than you'd think!!). Im pretty happy at this turn of events. Had my first day of training today which went well, lots to learn and felt a bit overwhelmed but I guess that's natural.

Can't think of a relevant visual to accompany this post sorry, so I'm sharing the tune I'm currently thrashing. And for some reason blogger isn't letting me share straight from YouTube, so enjoy it here. It's a goodie, trust me.

Sail - Awolnation

This song is simply brilliant. I can't get enough of it at the moment. There's just something about it that is really moving and just gorgeous. Love. Love. Love.

Hope you fall in love with it as much as I have.

What's been up lately...

Apologies for my delay between posts, I have been all over the place lately and haven't actually found the time/have been too lazy to sit down and write. But I will be better from now.

Over the past few weeks I have been on the hunt for a job, which is getting more and more desperate/depressing/scary/worrying as time goes on and my savings keep whittling down. Thankfully my hours at my current job have picked up a bit again but still not enough. I have lost count of the number of jobs I've applied for online, but the problem with online job-hunting is that all those jobs are applied for by hundreds of people, and there will always be someone more qualified or better for the role than me. It's hard to not get really down about the lack of success, but I'm trying to keep my head up!

In talking about my monetary woes though, I have myself to blame for a lot of it. I've been travelling around a lot lately, which hasn't helped my funds! I had the 21st of one of my dearest friends in Hamilton one weekend (which was awesome!) then was up in Hamilton again the following weekend for the Parachute music festival (sooooooooo much fun) which was a real money-killer. Fortunately since then I've been able to curb my spending quite a bit, and I've had some decent work shifts too.

Here are some pics from my life lately...

Photo

Social social social!! Sorry some of the pics are terrible quality (they're from an iphone).
My next step is to go door-knocking with my CV. I am dreading this very much, but I must do it.

Coldplay

So, last Thursday I journeyed up to Hamilton and then to Auckland on Saturday to go to the Coldplay concert at Mt Smart Stadium. Having never been to a big concert before, I didn't really know what to expect, though I'd heard that they put on an excellent show. I don't really know how to describe it other than in single adjectives: Amazing. Mind-blowing. Extraordinary. Fantastic. Brilliant.

Every song was a hit, Chris Martin was perfect live (and mega energetic - had to change shirts about 4 times due to sweat soakage), and the crowd were soooo into it. Such a buzz. My personal favourite was Princess of China because the band relocated to the front of the stage (it was a runway sorta shape) which was super close to us!!

Also very cool were the different coloured wristbands that every audience member got. These lit up during certain songs, in time with the music!! Soooooo awesome. The stadium looked like a Christmas tree (minus the tree part hah). The show also included fireworks, confetti blasts, a laser show and these giant inflatable ball thingys that were sent through the audience. It was truly spectacular.

After my first concert experience I can definitely say I am keen to go to many more in the future. And I love Coldplay very very much :)

The Temper Trap (most famous for Sweet Disposition) who opened for Coldplay were also amazing.
All in all, a great experience. I want to go again.

An amazing song

So I have fallen completely and utterly head-over-heels for the song It's Time by Imagine Dragons. I heard it on the radio the other day and was wondering for ages where I'd heard it from before. I finally worked out that its on the trailer for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which I've watched multiple times. Anyho...bought the song yesterday and have pretty much had it on repeat ever since! It's so beautiful in both composition and lyrics...

I don't ever want to let you down
I don't ever want to leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger, but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
That I'm never changing who I am

If you haven't heard it, please have a listen! I hope you fall in love with it as much as I have :)

Well hello there

Interesting things as of late:
  • Watched Memento for class yesterday. Brilliant movie, so intense and intellectual! Just how I like. I think Christopher Nolan is up there with my favourite directors. He must be one smart cookie.
  • Worked at an 80th birthday party last Saturday. The man whose birthday it was, Fred, was the sweetest little old man ever. He has Parkinsons and couldn't hold his drink for long due to shaking. So sad to see.
  • Bought a dress online the other day from Nasty Gal. Can't wait for it to turn up!
  • Going to a 21st this weekend that is going to be absolutely insane. Met the guys whose house it's being held at last weekend, such crack ups.
  • Two songs we are cranking a great deal lately: Gangnam Style and Feel Inside (and stuff like that). Also loving Pursuit of Happiness by Steve Aoki and Kid Cudi.
  • Had the cutest Gilmore Girls date the other night. 3 of us (one being a boy) sprawled on my bed watching Lorelai and Rory go about their lives. Currently on the second season (I've seen them all multiple times) which I think is one of, if not, the best. I love Gilmore Girls, actually.
  • Despite sounding cheery above, in reality this is me a bit lately...
It hasn't been the best of weeks :(

Radio - Lana Del Rey

After being introduced to this song at a party on Saturday night, I can't get enough of it. I hadn't jumped on the Lana Del Rey bandwagon just because everyone else was into her and I thought of her as another Adele type (whose songs I am sooooo over on account of hearing them far too much). But no, I much prefer Lana's sound, and this song is amazing!! Have a listen...

ahaha please excuse the very strange (and slightly disturbing) video that some rando made. I'm a bit embarrassed to be sharing it on my blog but unfortunately there is no official video made yet. So avert your eyes and enjoy the sweet noise :)

I love these lyrics

Until the referee rings the bell
Until both your eyes start to swell
Until the crowd goes home
What we gonna do ya'll?

Give em hell, turn their heads
Gonna live life til we're dead.
Give me scars, give me pain
Then they'll say of me, say of me, say of me
There goes the fighter, there goes the fighter
Here comes the fighter
That's what they'll say of me, say of me, say of me,
This one's a fighter...

Coldplay

My sister and I have tickets to the Coldplay concert in November!!! SOOOOO excited!! Such an amazing band who have been around forever and have innumerable hits (yellow, trouble, fix you, every teardrop is a waterfall, paradise, viva la vida, lost, speed of sound, princess of china, violet hill.....) so def glad to have gotten tickets! This will be the first big concert of my life. The only other big concert I've been to was a Hi5 one back when I was a wee youngin. haha. It's hard to pick my favourite Coldplay song, as there are just too many I like, but you really can't go past Yellow...

Hope you're having a lovely weekend :)

A song to soothe

I think I may possibly have found the most soothing song ever. After hearing it in a friend's car and immediately loving it, I bought it and have been playing it pretty much every night before I go to sleep ever since. It's so lovely and relaxing.

It makes me think of Asia, as the music is sorta like the music in Memoirs of a Geisha and Mulan
This song just makes me drift and dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeam...
What do you think?

My little corner of the world

Moved into the new flat yesterday afternoon! Not only is it a lovely place, but it's also clean and the new flatties are tops :) I'm thinking this year is going to be a goodie and can't wait to see what's in store! Its awesome to be back cooking and gyming with my amazing friend again too. Cannot wait for the 17th of March: it's the weekend following my birthday, it's St Pats (the biggest night of the year in Palmy) && our flat warming! Gonna be epic as! YAY. Here are a few snaps of the house...

Meanest sound system out

Kitchen. Notice all the eggs, one flattie works for an egg company so we are never short!

Hallway. My room on the left, Dan and Emma on the right.

My usuals - Johnny and the photo heart with my favourite people :)

The amazingly awesome calendar my lovely sister made for me :)

oh, and wanted to show this xmas prezzie from the mothership, a super cute tin for 'random crap'. And crackup how on the side of the tin it says 'Warning: Bend knees while lifting box'  haha!

I love the new place, and now that I've sorted out/decorated my room, it defs feels like my 'me' space :)

Happy Days + Crazy Nights

Sorry for the long delay between posts! I'm so much better when I'm at uni and get into my regular routine, so bear with me! Life highlights since my last post include: A 7.5 hour Downton Abbey marathon (with the bestie and some lovely nosh), another great night with friends which involved new card games, playing on the playground at the park, excessive rhyming and a 2am visit to McDs, slushies with the sister, night-time tennis and work (which has been surprisingly bearable lately). Looking forward to a busy weekend coming up too, I'm working at a Hall & Oates featuring Icehouse concert at Church Road Winery which should be fun!

Some things I've been appreciating recently...

These stairs Jo and I discovered - so cool! And culminating in Charlie Chaplin, even cooler.
(Charlie's art deco Restaurant in Napier)

Coldplay's superb newest single Charlie Brown
(hmmm what is it with Charlie's lately)

This little doggie, Kobe, my work friend :)

Peace out homies

Excite!!

Heading to I am Giant tonight and suuuuuuuuper excited for it! This is an awesome upcoming NZ band whose music is excellent. Then heading to a dubstep night afterwards at our fav nightclub which should be gud! I'm excited all round. Getting ready for it now (painting nails, straightening hair, deciding on outfit...etc)
Here is my favourite I am Giant song:

YAY :)

I'd rather be a comma than a full stop

Doing the post now before I head off to work. It's a wedding reception today which should be fun. Have recently discovered a marvelous new Coldplay song which is my current music obsession. My family have always been a big fan of this band and this new song is further proof of their genius. Love it.
(title of today's post is a line in the song) && what a beautiful title - Every teardrop is a waterfall :)

Enjoy!! xx

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday...gag (but yay)

Most defs hate that Rebecca Black song, but LOVE that it's Friday! Had a pretty sweet day today, spent at Uni and the gym. Though uni isn't really fun, it's definitely better when you know it's Friday and you don't have it tomorrow! It's going to be a quiet weekend for me, catching up with work and chillaxing. Saturday night I plan to curl up and watch a movie and though that may sound nanna-ish and boring, it's just what I feel like. Plans could always change though.........haha.
Today I'm gonna share a song that I am actually addicted to at the moment. It's real indie/vintage sounding (if that makes sense?) and I can't get enough of it. The music vid totally suits the song too, it's got that sorta youth group, forever young feel to it. It's nostalgic and it makes me happy.

Oh, I first listened to this song and hard out recognized it from somewhere but couldn't figure out where from! That really bugs me so please let me know if you know. Is it from an ad on TV...a show on TV...a movie...? grrr.
enjoy xx

Tunes I'm listening to

I don't know why, but this year I have really gotten into music. Not that I wasn't before, but my music consumption has for some reason increased tenfold. Maybe even twenty or thirtyfold! Its partly due to my friends boyfriend giving me a whole heap of music which I am slowly getting through listening to. I have recently discovered a passion for electro/dub music, which always helps me get in the party mood on the weekend, though I still like the occasional pop song. My favourite tunes currently are:

  • Marry you - Bruno Mars
  • Truth - The earlybirds (yay for NZ music!)
  • The best love song - T-Pain ft Chris Brown
  • Look at me now - Chris Brown ft Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne (super gang)
  • Girls fall like dominoes AND Super bass - Nicki Minaj
  • On the road - Kidz in Space (yay for NZ music!)
  • House party - 3OH!3 (this song is craaaaaaaazy and the vid would totes make you trip out if you were high/drunk!!)
  • Loud - Stan Walker (yay for NZ music!)
  • Thunderstruck - Crookers (old, I know, but still amazing)
  • Incredibad - The lonely Island (rofl material)
  • Miami to Ibiza - Swedish House Mafia vs Tinie Tempah
  • Set me on fire - Pendulum
  • The vulture - Pendulum
  • Danger mixed - Corporate Chris ft D.Roc
  • My name is Skrillex - Skrillex
  • Scary Monsters and nice sprites - Skrillex

All of these songs are amazing and I play them over and over and over. But my absolute favourite at this point in time is this song below...again by Pendulum (possibly my fav band?)
